If you've been handed a fortune cookie by a cyclist over the last couple of days - don't worry, they're just alerting you to a new career opportunity.
The unusual advertising tactic has been dreamed up by a team working for HBOS, which is throwing open the doors of its premises at the Gasworks site in south Belfast this Friday and Saturday for a careers event.
The team is employing two promotional bikes and van to tour Belfast city centre this week targeting members of the public with leaflets and a fortune cookie highlighting the open day, which runs from 4-8pm on Friday and 11am-3pm on Saturday.
Inside the fortune cookie is a message revealing that 'luck is on their side' - there are new openings in Customer Service at the Halifax Retail Contact centre.
Visitors to the open day will be able to tour the building, learn what the company does, find out details about the rewards package as well as visiting a 'clinic' for people who have applied in the past and have questions about the process.
The jobs are available in Customer Service roles in the bank account and credit card departments, and visitors to the Open Day can watch a presentation outlining facilities available.
Pauline Hull, Client Development Manager with the recruitment team, said they are attracting employees with more " ambient" techniques.
"It's really to raise the profile of the organisation and show they are different in their approach, not just in the way they recruit people, but different to work for," she said.
