The latest British soldier to die in Afghanistan may have been killed by friendly fire, the Ministry of Defence said yesterday.
The serviceman from the Royal Military Police was shot in the Sangin area of Helmand last night. His family have been informed.
Investigators are looking into his death and no firm conclusions will be reached until after an inquest, the MoD said.
A spokesman said there is a possibility that his death was caused by friendly fire.
