Algarve victim to be laid to rest

The funeral of the Londonderry businessman murdered in the Algarve just over a week ago will take place in Co Donegal today.

Requiem Mass will be held at 11am at St Mary’s Church, Ballybrack, near Paul Houston’s home in Greencastle on the banks of Lough Foyle. His remains will be cremated at Roselawn, Belfast, on Wednesday.

Father-of-four Mr Houston (51) was the owner of Houston’s Shoes in Londonderry and president of Greencastle Golf Club where the mood yesterday was sombre. A member of the club told the Belfast Telegraph: “His murder has come as a terrible shock to the club. Most of the members will be at the funeral Mass. We’re shattered, especially by the manner of his death.”

Police in Portugal are treating his death as murder. Mr Houston and his wife Celine were on a golfing holiday with another couple in Alvor near Portimor. Reports say he was found in a pool of blood on a pedestrian walkway during the early hours of Sunday morning.
