Businesses in Belfast are being offered a helping hand to kick the habit.
The city council has planned a host of smoke-free seminars to help owners
and managers prepare for the smoking ban that comes into force on April 30.
More than 50 seminars are due to take place at various venues across the
city. They will run throughout February and March and will provide an
opportunity for employers to find out, at first hand, their responsibilities
under the new law.
Four one-hour seminars will be held at each location at 10am, 12.30pm, 3pm
and 6.30pm each day.
The smoking ban will affect most businesses including factories, offices,
bars and restaurants as well as work vehicles and public transport. It will
also affect enclosed public places such as community and church halls,
sports centres, shopping centres and schools.
This is the latest move by Belfast City Council to help local businesses
prepare for the new law.
Since January, the council's smoke-free environment officers have been
visiting businesses offering help and advice.
At least one of the officers will be available each day to answer any
specific queries businesses may have.
