Oooh Betty!
UTV glamour girls become a couple of Ugly Bettys, but it's all for a good cause
Friday, 9 February 2007
Before: Pamela and Alison don the loopy ponchos, curly wigs, big glass and dental disasters to become dead ringers for the heroine of hit TV show Ugly Betty
Here are two local television presenters like you've never seen them before.
But, don't worry ... after a glamorous makeover - in the name of charity - UTV's Pamela Ballantine and Alison Fleming were soon back to their super-chic selves.
It was all in aid of Special Olympics Ireland's 2007 Ulster campaign - 'Support an Athlete' - in conjunction with Michael Quinn Hairdressing in Belfast.
For just £30, Michael and his team promise to give you a blow dry to die for, while in-house make-up artist expert Paddy McGurgan will give you a fresh new look - all to help fill the charity's coffers.
Former Miss Ireland and event organiser for the Co Antrim fundraising branch, Michelle McTernan, said she hopes to draw a crowd.
"This is the one of the many fundraising activities I have planned," she said.
"We're trying to do our bit to raise as much towards the £350,000 needed before April and I hope lots of people come along. It only costs £20 for a blow-dry, £15 for make-up and £30 for both."
Speaking to the Belfast Telegraph after the experience, Pamela urged everyone to give it a go.
"Special Olympics Ulster is a fantastic organisation," she said.
"It's important we support them now to build on previous successes and help send the Ulster team to the World Games. The Ugly Betty Makeover is a great way to show support."
Meanwhile Alison, who admitted to being a big fan of the television series, praised the novel fundraising approach.
"There are over 11,000 athletes participating and their clubs, coaches and volunteers need as much support as possible," she said.
"Getting a makeover is a great way to help - though I hope I didn't need as much work as Ugly Betty."
To book an Ugly Betty Makeover - only available on Monday, February 12 - call Michael Quinn Hairdressing on (028) 90 434 003.
Everyone who participates will also be in with a chance to win some great raffle prizes, including to-die-for designer jeans and a leather Furla purse from Angelo Designer Handbags, Moira.
You can see Pamela and Alison's transformation on UTV Live tonight at 5.30pm.
