Special needs kids plan for the trip of a lifetime

Pupils and carers from a special needs school in Larne are planning a trip to America in April.

Roddensvale School has now started a major fundraising campaign in a bid to reduce the cost for families and staff who will be travelling to South Carolina.

Pupils from the school's choir plan to build on links already established between Larne Borough and York County in South Carolina, working in co-operation with York County's Schools Exchange Programme.

Roddensvale's principal John Madden said: "For many of our pupils this will be a valuable learning experience and for some it represents the trip of a lifetime."

The pupils and carers will enjoy the famed southern hospitality of the Carolinas as they follow a schedule of concerts in conjunction with a social programme which has been put together by administrators in York County.

The school's fundraising plans include a breakfast at the school next Friday morning and a fashion show at the Clarion Hotel in Carrickfergus to be held on February 28.

For further information, or to contribute to the school's fundraising campaign, telephone the school on (028) 2827 2802 or email Roddensvaless@hotmail.com
