A new competition launched today is challenging readers to find the most
unusual place in Ulster to iron - and take the most outrageous photo to
prove it.
Extreme ironing began when one man - who was unable to face the mountain of
clothes piling up in his living room - thought it would be a great idea to
complete the monotonous chore on the top of a mountain and take a picture of
it.
Now, 10 years on, one major ferry company is hoping the 'spur-of-the-moment'
stunt will inspire hundreds of others to take to the hills and do the same
for the chance to win some great prizes.
Stena Line in conjunction with The Belfast Telegraph is challenging readers
to find the most unusual place in Northern Ireland to iron.
Over the coming weeks some of the outlandish pictures will be published in
this newspaper with the overall winner receiving a return trip for a car and
four people on board the Stena Line HSS ferry.
To be in the running 'extreme ironers' need to submit photos to the
competition's website, www.goextremeironing.com by June 30.
Paul Grant, Stena Line's head of travel market on the Irish Sea, said the
competition - which is part of the company's new advertising campaign that
features a group of friends packing their car and heading off on an 'extreme
ironing' trip - had created a buzz among staff and the public alike.
"The website has only been up and running for a month but already
hundreds of photos have been submitted," he said.
"We have put the best ones up online and we would encourage more
people to pack the car for an extreme ironing adventure and send in their
pictures as there are free trips and other prizes up for grabs."
