One of the world's biggest superstars last night confirmed he will be play Belfast for the first time next month.

George Michael will finish his epic European tour with what is sure to be a sell-out concert in the Odyssey Arena.

Tickets for the gig on Saturday August 4 go on sale at 9am next Tuesday.

The 25Live tour kicked off last year and marked the stage return of the singer after a 15-year break from touring.

A spokeswoman for Aiken Promotions said: "We are absolutely delighted that George Michael has decided to end his European tour with a concert in Belfast."

The Belfast concert will feature music taken from all his albums.

Fans can expect a mixture of old and new with classics such as Praying For Time, Too Funky and Faith on the set list.

The Londoner was due to play two sell-out gigs in Dublin's RDS last month but concert promoters were forced to cancel the second night due to technical difficulties.

It later emerged a truck carrying technical equipment crashed in Europe.

The 43-year-old megastar has been at the centre of several years of controversy. In 1998 he was arrested after flashing at a policeman in a public toilet in Los Angeles.

Last month, he was banned from driving for two years and ordered to do 100 hours community service.

The charge of driving whilst unfit arose from an incident in London last October when the singer was found slumped in his Mercedes.

Tickets for George's Belfast gig go on sale next Tuesday from the Odyssey Arena Box Office on 9073 9074 and all usual Ticketmaster outlets.

Tickets can also be purchased on the 24-hour credit card bookings line on 0870 2434455 or by visiting www.ticketmaster.ie
