Amnesty set to join forces with Rambo
Friday, 15 February 2008
Gung-ho killer John Rambo might consider them the sort of human rights hand-wringers who'd want to stop his escapades but Amnesty International have emerged as fans.
The human rights group yesterday endorsed Rambo, the hard-fighting Vietnam vet's fourth screen adventure.
Sylvester Stallone's action hero takes on the military junta in Burma and that's what Amnesty like about him.
At the premiere of the film this week, Burmese pro-democracy protesters thanked Stallone for setting the film in the country.
Stallone said he received death threats during the making of the movie adding that Burma's rulers "just didn't want this film to be made."
Patrick Corrigan, Amnesty International's Northern Ireland Programme Director, said: "This film puts the spotlight firmly back onto Burma."
