Ulster's most famous amateur chef will tonight hope the proof of his talent
will be in the tasting of his pudding - amongst other dishes - as he battles
for the Masterchef title.
After months of preparation, Lisburn father-of-two Jonny Stevenson impressed
judges with his culinary skills and beat thousands of other hopefuls to
reach the finals of the popular BBC programme.
Viewers across the UK will discover if he is good enough to scoop the 2008
cookery crown.
In the countdown to the last show each finalist faced tough challenges every
night.
They have had to deliver top dishes under high pressure conditions, such as
cooking for the Army in Belize, a range of celebrities, a wedding and top
Michelin Star chefs.
However, in order to win the title, Jonny has been battling all this week
against two other food enthusiasts, 18-year-old student Emily Ludolf and
former legal eagle James Nathan (33).
The aspiring chef is hoping that his success to date will help him fulfil
his ambition to open up his own restaurant and judging by the current
careers of the programme's previous finalists, he is well on his way to
making his mark in the culinary world.
Jonny said his love for cooking grew when he was 21 after preparing a meal
for a group of friends.
He has also sparked controversy during the competition.
He entered as an amateur, as required by the rules, but some months into the
show landed a part-time job at Ed's Bar and Grill in Lisburn. The Masterchef
final will be broadcast tonight on BBC2 at 8pm.
