Speculation is growing that one of the world's top fashion icons is set to jet in to Northern Ireland later this week and bring glitz and glamour to the opening of the new House of Fraser store at Victoria Square.

Last month the London-based supermodel Yasmin Le Bon, wife of famous singer Simon Le Bon, was announced as the face of the leading department store's spring fashion advertising campaign.

Stylish shots of her, taken by celebrity photographer Robert Erdmann, feature her modelling outfits by some of the exclusive labels that will soon be available to Ulster shoppers when the department store opens to the public on Thursday.

House of Fraser representatives could not confirm or deny the rumours but did say that a fashion VIP will be cutting their opening ribbon on March 6 at 9.30am.

Also performing the honours will be a cancer survivor, representing the store's corporate charity in Northern Ireland, Action Cancer.

House of Fraser's Chairman, Don McCarthy and Chief Executive John King will be among the key stakeholders attending the opening bash.

House of Fraser is part of the long awaited Victoria Square complex.

Described as one of the most audacious city centre developments ever, it commands 800,000 sq ft and cost £400 million.

The centre will throw open its doors to the public at 9.30am on Thursday, with entertainment, including aerial acrobats and music from the Ulster Orchestra, from 10am, while the shops will open at 10.30am.

Victoria Square will be open Monday and Tuesday from 9am-7pm, Wednesday to Friday from 9am-9pm, Saturday from 9am-6pm and Sunday from 1pm-6pm.
