Cathedral arts festival hits new box office record

Thursday, May 01, 2008

This year's Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival will be kicking off in country style tonight with a special opening concert in Belfast.

And organisers of the popular event, which features anarchic stage magician Gerry Sadowitz (right) among the artists, say they are delighted that the festival has broken box office records with the highest pre-festival sales in its history.

"This year Belfast will have arts in abundance with our own ever-expanding arts festival in the city centre alongside the Festival of Fools and Belfast Children's Festival," said festival director Sean Kelly.

"There will be a host of terrific events for those living in, working or visiting the city."

The festival offers a wide range of events over a 12-day period, in a variety of venues around the historic Cathedral Quarter area.

The fun kicks off tonight with Rockin' On The Front Porch — a country-themed party in the festival marquee in Custom House Square.
