Irish aid agencies seek Burma donations
Wednesday, May 07, 2008
An umbrella group for Irish aid agencies is seeking donations from the
public to help the victims of last weekend's cyclone in Burma.
Donations can be made at
www.howyoucanhelp.ie .
President Mary McAleese has also expressed her sympathies to the people of
Burma, saying Ireland is anxious to assist in the relief and recovery effort.
The chief executive of GOAL, meanwhile, is demanding that the Irish
Government do all it can to pressure the Burmese authorities to allow aid
workers into the country.
John O'Shea claims Burma's military government is blocking access for aid
workers to cover up its brutal treatment of civilians.
He says the situation will not change unless political clout is brought to
bear.
