Thousands of rugby supporters will flock to Ravenhill in Belfast tonight to
acclaim Ulster and Ireland legend David Humphreys as he makes his last
appearance for his province.
Humphreys, one of Northern Ireland's true sporting icons, will win his 163rd
and final cap in the Magners League clash against Cardiff Blues, bringing
down the curtain on a glittering 16-year career.
The fans' favourite said: "I am probably going to be more nervous for
this game than I have been for years."
The 36-year-old, capped 72 times by his country and recently voted Ulster's
favourite player of all-time in a supporters' poll, has battled with an
ankle injury all season but has been passed fit to lead out his province for
what is expected to be an emotional farewell.
"If I had been playing all season, I would have been coming into this
game suddenly realising it was all coming to an end," he said.
"So in many ways tonight's game is a bonus. Mentally I had almost
retired and for that reason I am really looking forward to the game. I have
lived my dream for the last 10 years and loved every minute of it."
