Car bomb probe: four arrested

Thursday, May 15, 2008

Four men were arrested in Co Tyrone today as part of an investigation into the attempted murder of an off-duty PSNI officer near Castlederg.

The men were arrested by detectives at different locations this morning and were taken to Antrim Serious Crime Suite for questioning.

The officer suffered serious leg injuries when a booby-trap bomb exploded as he was driving to work. Chief Constable Sir Hugh Orde blamed dissident republicans for the attack.

The incident occurred on the Drumnaby Road in the border village of Spamount, just a few miles from Castlederg, at around 9.30pm on Monday. The officer was rescued by a member of the public who pulled him from the burning wreckage.
