Tuesday, 20 May 2008
A Derry man accused of dangerous driving causing the deaths of five young people in Co Donegal in 2005 has been returned for trial by jury.
Forty-nine-year-old Brendan Henderson, from Sevenoaks in Waterside, appeared at Buncrana District Court this morning, where he was remanded on bail to appear at Letterkenny Circuit Court July.
Twenty-two-year-old Rochelle Peoples, 23-year-old David Steele and Gavin Duffy, Charlene O'Connor and Darren Quinn, who were all 21, died in the two-car collision after a night out.
Henderson, the sole survivor and sole occupant of one of the vehicles involved, has been in a wheelchair since the collision as a result of the injuries he sustained in the crash at Quigley's Point on October 8th, 2005.
The accused, who denies the charge, was remanded on his own bail of €2,000 and an independent surety of €10,000.
He was granted free legal aid.
