Nairac: man to face charges

Friday, 23 May 2008

A 57-year-old man was charged last night with abducting Captain Robert Nairac, the Army intelligence officer murdered by the IRA 31 years ago.

The man has been charged with kidnap and false imprisonment. He will appear before Newry Magistrates Court this morning.

Detectives have also sent a murder file to the Prosecution Service, raising the prospect of further charges.

Captain Nairac (29) was abducted and shot by republicans as he posed as a civilian in the Three Steps Inn, in Drumintee, Co Armagh, in May 1977.
