World’s first robotic bartender debuts in London
Electronic barman opens bottles and pours pints
Thursday, 3 July 2008
A robotic bartender has made his debut at London department store, Selfridges.
The £100,000 robot, called Mr Asahi after the Japanese beer, can serve pints in under two minutes.
A spokesperson for Asahi said: ""It's the world's first robotic barman and has been built specifically for Asahi Beer.
"Robotic barmen don't have attitude problems, they work a bit quicker, they don't need to eat, they don't need loo breaks, so I think they are perfect."
A computer inside Mr Asahi controls compressed air to provide the animatronics required to pull a pint.
The robot also has LED lights which move from green to red as he strains to removes bottle tops.
Mr Asahi event manager Graham Sandry said: "He ties in relevantly to the modern image of Japan and also a modern up-to-date lifestyle."
Asahi also revealed to the Belfast Telegraph that their robot will be visiting Northern Ireland in the coming months but were tight-lipped about a location.
Mr Asahi will be pulling more pints at Selfridges in Manchester on July 10.
