Irish soldier falls to his death at Spanish bull festival
Monday, 7 July 2008
The Irish man who plunged to his death from a 90-foot-wall at the famous Pamplona bull festival in Spain has been named.
Aidan Holly, 23, from Tarbert in Co Kerry died yesterday after falling from a 300-year-old historic wall in front of hundreds of stunned onlookers.
Mr Holly was a serving member of the Republic's Defence Forces and was on official leave when the incident happened.
He is believed to have fallen from an ancient wall surrounding the city of Pamplona while on holiday with a friend at the annual San Fermin Festival.
Irish Defence Minister Willie O'Dea has extended his sympathies to Mr Holly's family.
A spokesman for the National Police in Pamplona said: "The man fell more than 30 metres from the 300-year-old Redin wall in the city in what appears to be a tragic accident.
"He fell from a wall away from the bull run and may have been relaxing away from the main festivities," he added.
