Bateman book on Richard and Judy list

A book by a Co Down author set in a bookshop in Belfast has bagged one of the book world’s most showbizzy endorsements — a place on Richard and Judy’s Summer Read list.

Mystery Man by Colin Bateman, who lives in Bangor, is set in the No Alibis bookstore on Botanic Avenue and tells how the bookstore’s owner becomes a private detective. It joins seven other novels on the list, endorsed by husband and wife presenters Judy Finnegan and Richard Madeley. Starting from May 13, the couple will discuss each of the titles in turn with celebrity guests during their show.

The novel is the 22nd title by Mr Bateman, and will be heavily promoted by bookshops and supermarkets across the UK as publishers begin their big push to encourage customers to buy books for their summer holidays.

Mr Bateman told fans on the website that the honour was “a huge bonus”.
