Belfast event to unite against racism
Saturday, 4 July 2009
People from across Belfast will unite today at the Oh Yeah Centre in the Cathedral quarter for what is described as “a family-friendly and fun extravaganza”.
Compered by BBC’s Joe Lindsay, the organisers say it is a direct response to the increase in racist attacks, a day for celebrating diversity “but also showing our similarities”.
People are invited to join with migrant communities and make them welcome — and there will be musicians from Chinese, Polish, Romanian and Zimbabwean backgrounds, plus many more.
The family section runs from 2pm-7.30pm, including games and arts activites. From 8pm-1am, musicians like Tin Pot Operation will add an international flavour.
