Bomb attack on home of PSNI officer’s father

Wednesday, 5 May 2010

A pipe-bomb exploded outside the home of a Catholic police officer's father, it was confirmed last night.

The front window of the house in Durmalane, Newry, was blown in and minor damage caused to a wall last night. There were no injuries.

The householder heard a noise at his front door and was on his way to investigate when the device exploded.

Earlier this year a dissident republican car bomb device exploded outside a courthouse in the city.

Police have warned recenty that the paramilitaries in Northern Ireland posed their greatest threat since the 1998 Omagh bomb attack.

SDLP Newry and Armagh MLA Dominic Bradley has condemned those responsible for the pipe- bomb attack.

He said: “Attacks on the police and their families will not be tolerated by the people of Newry.

“My message to those responsible is that they should lay off and go away.”

Will dissident violence pass after the elections, or are we headed into a long period of low-level violence? I suppose the more disturbing question is whether or not violence will escalate? Will loyalists begin rethinking decommissioning? Hopefully this is just a blip as the process of devolution continues.

The Republican movement, showing the world its true colours.

Protestant, Catholic, neither, we're all targets. Time to flush out these terrorists (and their supporters).

They should rename the IRA to the Irish Retard Association or the RIRA as the Really Irish Retard Association because you would have to be a real moron to sign up for this Useless Political Cause.

My sincere appologies to the Mentally handicapped, they are smarter than these idiots.

Everytime I read something critical of the USA from the UK or the Republic, I have to laugh. You people live in the most beautiful place on earth - and I mean that, I've been there - and you really do have the most unique, interesting, enjoyable people on earth - just the way most of your people are is so very cool - yet, you can't get along. It just amazes me. Unfortunately the very few of you that act like pure imbicilic morons ruins it for everyone else. We in the USA don't do that crap because of what we call The Constitution, you might tryi it sometime.

Let's face it, if these people did not have extensive support from the communities where they live, they would never manage. Seems to me more could be done to install the idea in EVERYBOY's mind that the whole of society would benefit from a stop to this outrage.

Even if Ireland were reunited tomorrow these morons would still find an excuse to cause trouble and anxiety.
Democracy says majority vote counts....why don't they get the message.
If and when Ireland will ever be reunited will not be determined by this riffraff but by the people of Northern Ireland.
It's adisgrace to attack the police, either their person or their property.
Ireland, North or South, doesn't need or want scum like these dissidents.

Richard, do you expect the SAS to be more effective than the last time around? If I remember correctly their deployment resulted in innocent people being killed, a shoot to kill controversy that has never been resolved and bad publicity for the British government / positive publicity for Republicans.

It's telling how the use of the special criminal court and jailing people on the word of a senior Garda in the rest of Ireland made them shift their base of operations northward...

What heroes! Too chicken to attack the home of the officer in case he used his personal protection weapon on them. Ah yes, true soldiers for their cause - doesn't it warm the cockles of your heart(!)

God, these dissidents are so unbelievably thick it's utterly infuriating. The Irish Republican campaign (they're the 'Real' IRA don't forget) to restore direct rule from England and bomb the British Army back onto the streets of Northern Ireland gathers momentum. Well done lads (and ladettes), you're doing yourselves proud. Imbeciles. If they weren't killing people it would be laughable.

Dominic Bradley says that attacks on the police will not be tolerated by the people of Newry. The police were slaughtered in Newry for over 30 years and I didn't see the people of Newry doing anything to stop it then - what's changed now Dominic ? Same people, same town. Drumalane and Fathom Park were hotbeds for violent republican murdering gangsters back in the day - has anything changed ?

The IRA were cowards, but the new version, IRA 2.0, they have new levels of cowardice!

Surely there must be an anti-virus available?
