Cancer victim 'facing arrest' over XL collapse hotel bill

Tuesday, 16 September 2008

A terminally ill woman, stranded by the collapse of travel firm XL, has been threatened with arrest for failing to pay her hotel bill.

Cherry Dodgson, from Wells in Somerset, has lung cancer and had cashed in her life savings to holiday in Egypt with her family and friends.

But after the tour operator went bust she was left in Sharm El Sheikh and unable to meet the cost of her extended stay. The 49-year-old owes £1,400.

Her daughter Shani Winfield said: "Mum has taken a turn for the worse.

"Anything like this is emotionally draining for a healthy person but my mum is poorly so it is a whole lot worse."

Robbo perhaps if you wrote in plain english then we wouldn't have any understanding - however the problem still remains this ill lady is on the verge of being arrested all because she had the misfortune of using a company that has gone bust - Leaving her stranded and in distress - I think that is a sad state of affairs if anyone should start up a fund to help bring her home - Count me in!

Dermac - perhaps you are having problems with the English language but the money, not the person, is the burden!

Don't be so heartless Robbo this is ill woman is a victim of a company who's gone into admininstration something she couldnt forsee - Not her fault this happened as for classifying a cancer patient as a burden - I hardly think so the cancer charities should be able to pass the money on to bring this lady home

It's a sad story but all should pay bills which are owed otherwise the burden is passed to the rest of us, rich or poor.

Horse first, then cart ... it’s time nationalists got real about unity

No political regime likes uncertainty. Talk of unexpected elections makes politicians twitchy. Meal tickets can be put at risk.
