Candlelit vigil staged at city hall
Wednesday, 11 March 2009
A candlelit vigil in memory of the two soldiers and PSNI officer murdered in two separate attacks by republican dissidents has been held outside Belfast City Hall.
The event, held last night, was organised through the ‘Support Our Troops’ page on the social networking site Bebo.
It was arranged following the deaths of Constable Stephen Carroll and soldiers Mark Quinsey (23) and Patrick Azimkar (21).
Mr Carroll was gunned down on Monday night in Craigavon, Co Armagh.
The dissident republican group, the Continuity IRA, said they were behind the the murder.
Soldiers Mark Quinsey, and Patrick Azimkar were shot dead by the Real IRA outside the Massareene Barracks in Antrim on Saturday night.
Following the vigil at 7pm, dozens of messages were left on the site in remembrance of the three men.
One post said: “Gone but not forgotten. Their only crime was to serve Queen and country.”
Three peace rallies are due to take place today in Newry, Belfast and Londonderry in protest at the murders.

"no longer fooled republican" - hang your head in shame!!
The society was equally as shocked and repulsed over those killings as the soldiers.. the difference is that those recent killings can be linked to the 'old days of terrorist murder/violence' which no-body wants..

I spent 10 days in Ireland in September 2008 half in Dublin, half in Belfast, and the whole stay was pure pleasure. The island is beautiful and the inhabitants wonderful. My only wish is that everyone could live peacecefully without violence, needless to say without killing. My heart goes to all the families who have lost a loved one during the past days and years. My thoughts are with you.
