CCTV trawl after city burglaries

Forensic tests have been carried out by detectives after offices at a primary school and a sports complex in Londonderry were targeted by robbers for the second time in a week.

Police at Strand Road have confirmed they are investigating several burglaries in the city which they said may be linked and have obtained CCTV footage from both premises.

St Patrick's Primary School on Collon Lane was broken into during the early hours of last Tuesday only to be targeted again over the weekend. Several laptops bearing the school’s insignia on security seals were stolen from the premises yesterday morning.

Police also received a report of a burglary at Templemore Sports Complex about a mile west of the school on both days.

Derry City Council, which runs the complex, estimated that approximately £2,000 worth of damage was caused to the interior of the building, with computers broken and the phone system damaged.
