Chaos as obese man’s mobility scooter crashes

Saturday, 6 March 2010

An obese disabled man caused a major traffic jam after his mobility wheelchair hit a pothole and overturned.

Spencer Pindus , who weighs in at 25 stone, was left sprawled in the street for half an hour as emergency crews struggled to get him into the back of an ambulance. Paramedics had to use a specially reinforced stretcher to move Mr Pindus (60).

He had just finished a burger and chips breakfast at his local pub in Romford, Essex, when his motorised wheelchair hit the pothole, catapulting him face-first into the road. Police were forced close the busy route while paramedics tried to shift him.
