Her footballer boyfriend won’t be smiling for a while but Christine Bleakley did manage to cheer up some despondent England fans who watched their team dramatically crash out of the World Cup yesterday.

The One Show host, who has just signed a multi-million pound deal with ITV, was among a number of WAGS who flew out to South Africa to support their men.

However the 31-year-old from Co Down didn’t bring the luck of the Irish for her boyfriend Frank Lampard, whose ‘goal’ went unnoticed by the Uruguayan referee.

Dressed in an understated navy cardigan, vest and white skinny jeans with a gold pendant Christine was put through a rollercoaster of emotions as she watched England lose 4-1.

Before the tournament, manager Fabio Capello, known as a strict disciplinarian, had told players he did not want wives and girlfriends to be a distraction from the serious business of football.

And Christine said she would not be travelling to South Africa. “Of course I'll miss Frank, but he's got a job to do,” she said. Last night, though, she was joined in the stadium by John Terry's wife Toni Poole, and Carly Zucker, wife of Joe Cole, is also thought to have made the journey.
