Clonard Novena to draw crowds

The annual Clonard Novena is due to get under way today with thousands of people expected to attend services over the next nine days.

The Solemn Novena in Clonard has been one of the most outstanding demonstrations of the faith of the Catholic people of Belfast.

People arrive in their thousands each day from just after 6am until near to midnight 18 hours later and this goes on for nine consecutive days in the month of June each year.

The first service gets under way at 7am, with 10 sessions throughout the day.

People from all over Ireland flock to the west Belfast monastery to take part in the services, which are open to people of all faiths, and are also broadcast on the Clonard website.

Clonard Rector Fr Michael Murtagh said: “It is a traditional Mass with a lot of singing and specially invited preachers, and everyone prays together. It is open to people of all faiths. Next Tuesday, we have speakers from all the different faiths. The services can be followed on our website as well so they are transmitted and watched by people all over the world.”

For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus. (1Timothy 2:5)

Jesus answered, I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the father except through me. (John 14:6)

The teaching of Christ and the Apostles clearly demonstrates that there is only one way to God and that way is through Jesus Christ.
Multifaith worship may seem a good idea in the eyes of men but eternity will show it for the sham that it is in the eyes of God.

Gritty, moving and heroic...Billy plays captured life here

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times ... Sunday's 30th anniversary screening of the seminal Too Late to Talk to Billy was riveting viewing. But it wasn't nostalgic viewing.

Surprise, surprise. Peter Robinson has been to his first gaelic match, Martin McGuinness is heading for Windsor Park and the Ulster Unionists have scored another own goal.

Why trying to go on a diet is never really a piece of cake

Some people make New Year’s resolutions, I make lists. Every new year I determine to keep track of everything I spend and everything I eat and drink.

Scary movie? Their jaws were sore from laughing

Teenage boys love horror films and I have two who are in charge of the remote control in our house, so naturally there’s gore-a-plenty on the box most weekends. However, until recently one film was banned.
