A Co Londonderry teenager today told of her hopes of winning a major teen beauty pageant as she continued to feature in the top three in a public vote.

Jade Roberts, from Greysteel, hopes to be one of three finalists selected from her 50-strong group to go onto the Teen Queen UK 2009 final that will be held next July in London.

Teen Queen UK was first launched in December 2006 at the Clothes Show live exhibition in Birmingham.

Jade said today that she is the first girl from Northern Ireland to enter the beauty contest.

The search for the 2009 contestants began in August, with the first of six monthly heats from which the three girls topping the poll will be chosen to go through to the grand finale.

Voting in Jade’s group goes on throughout this month, and will finish at 11:30pm on October 31.

The Greysteel teenager, who is a student at St Mary’s secondary school in Limavady, has been in the top three since voting started, and was today sitting in third place.

She said she entered the competition after spotting an article in OK magazine.

“I entered in August and last month they asked me to go for a photoshoot. There were 80 girls photographed and only 50 went through to the public vote. The top three will go to the final,” said Jade, who said she was interested in both fashion and modelling.

“I love art at school and would love to do fashion design at London College of Art but I like modelling too.”

Jade is hoping that the Northern Ireland public will help make her dream of becoming Teen Queen UK come true.

The competition is split into two categories: Teen Princess for 13-15 year-olds and Teen Queen for girls aged 16-19.

To support Jade, text Jade Roberts to 84205, or ring 09016561515 and enter 40.

Results can be found on the internet, at www.teenqueenuk.com under the 2009 Teen Queen heats section.

JADE HAS SUCCESSFULLY WENT THROUGH AT 1ST PLACE WITH 1755 VOTES FOR THE MONTH OF OCTOBER. SHE WILL GO THROUGH TO FINALS IN JULY 2009 WITH 18 OTHER HOPEFULLS TO WIN TEEN QUEEN UK. CONGRATULATIONS JADE

Steven above thinks he is clever and highbrow by saying "Who Cares About This" but he must have been to read the article in the first place and then post a comment. Stop trying to be all clever and cynical when it is clear you are not.

I entered an online competition searching for the best most popular person on the internet last month and have made the final 2,000 out of 3,000 entries! If I can get enough of my "friends" from myface to vote online, I might get into the top 1,000 - Why hasn't the Telegraph been touch to write an article about me? Why I ask?

Who cares about this? This story is of no interest to anyone other than this Jade girl. It is because of the plethora of useless journalism like this that I no longer get the Telegraph delivered.

Gritty, moving and heroic...Billy plays captured life here

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times ... Sunday's 30th anniversary screening of the seminal Too Late to Talk to Billy was riveting viewing. But it wasn't nostalgic viewing.

Surprise, surprise. Peter Robinson has been to his first gaelic match, Martin McGuinness is heading for Windsor Park and the Ulster Unionists have scored another own goal.

Why trying to go on a diet is never really a piece of cake

Some people make New Year’s resolutions, I make lists. Every new year I determine to keep track of everything I spend and everything I eat and drink.

Scary movie? Their jaws were sore from laughing

Teenage boys love horror films and I have two who are in charge of the remote control in our house, so naturally there’s gore-a-plenty on the box most weekends. However, until recently one film was banned.
