Dublin man in court after gun haul

A Dublin man has appeared in court charged in connection with an international probe into organised crime.

34 year old Paul Meehan of The Crescent, Sallis Park, Dublin faces a total of 13 charges involving drugs, firearms, smuggling and the evasion of duty.

He is one of six people arrested following a prolonged investigation by Gardaí, the PSNI, and Dutch police into a suspected international trafficking ring.

There was no application for bail and Meehan was remanded in custody to appear at Belfast Magistrates Court via video link in four weeks.

In the past week, a total of 230 handguns, thousands of rounds of ammunition, hundreds of thousands of euro notes and drugs with a street value of around €3.2 million were seized in Dublin, Belfast and Amsterdam.
