England team shirts and underwear stolen

England players had clothing stolen from their hotel

Cleaning staff at the hotel where the England team were based stole shirts, a medal and underwear from the players, it has emerged.

The Football Association said a number of unnamed players had the items taken by members of the cleaning staff at their Royal Bafokeng base in Rustenburg.

The goods were eventually located and returned to their owners and five hotel workers were convicted of the thefts by a special World Cup court on Sunday.

"We can confirm that some items went missing, which have thankfully been returned. The local police have dealt with the matter and as far as we are concerned, it has been resolved," an FA spokesman said.

The England team were on their way home last night after losing 4-1 to Germany.
