Escaped murderer is recaptured

A convicted murderer who went on the run while out of jail on pre-release was recaptured today.

Police said Colin Paul King, 31, had been located in the Duncairn area of north Belfast and arrested for being unlawfully at large.

He had been missing since last Thursday.

King had been staying at the Prisoner Assessment Unit in Belfast ahead of his full release after serving a life term.

He was one of two teenagers convicted of the murder of 83-year-old widow Bessie Robson in 1994.

She was stabbed and beaten in her Belfast home before the property was set on fire.

Officers triggered the manhunt when King failed to turn up for a pre-release appointment on Thursday and police warned the public not to approach him.
