EU promotes Irish language

The European Commission is actively and increasingly promoting Irish as a working EU language.

The use of Irish is increasing in Brussels and there is now an Irish language newspaper, Anam Beo, mainly covering events relevant to Ireland.

Dr Seán O'Riain is an expert in the Commission's translations department.

He says having a publication in Irish will help promote the language among the 15,000 or so Irish people living in Brussels.
