The young boy who lost his life after collapsing suddenly in a west Belfast park was just a week away from becoming a teenager.
Corey Wisdom, from the Turf Lodge area of the city, died on his way to hospital after he collapsed in Falls Park on Wednesday evening.
Exact details about his death remain unclear but it is understood the Corpus Christi College pupil met up with his friends just before 6.30pm when tragedy struck.
A couple who were out walking tried to help him after being alerted by his friends, but they were unable to save him.
He was rushed to the Royal Victoria Hospital by paramedics, but despite their efforts it is believed he died along the way.
Corey was due to celebrate his 13th birthday next week.
Local Sinn Fein councillor Janice Austin said the entire community was shocked by Corey’s death.
But, she added, they would rally around in support of his grieving family.
“His family are very distressed at the moment,” she said.
“They are still trying to come to terms with what has happened. They are a young family. Corey has a younger brother and sister and his parents are just trying to cope right now.
“Corey was a very popular young boy, both at school and locally.
“He was like most boys his age. I believe he was very into his XBox.”
Ms Austin said a vigil is expected to be held for Corey in Falls Park at 7pm tonight.
It is understood schoolfriends of the young boy are still trying to come to terms with their loss and wanted to show their support for the family.
A post-mortem examination has been carried out and police have said they are not treating his death as suspicious.
A date for the funeral has yet to be set but it is understood it could take place tomorrow.
