Firm charged over forklift death

A construction firm is being prosecuted over the death of one of its workmen at a Belfast apartment block development.

Graham Construction faces four charges connected to a fatal |accident on the site of the old Ormeau Bakery. Belfast man Gerard Morgan (52) was killed in an incident involving a forklift truck in February 2008.

Following an investigation by the Health and Safety Executive Northern Ireland, a decision was taken to bring a prosecution. Dromore-based Graham Construction has been accused of failing to provide a safe work environment.

A preliminary inquiry was to be held at Belfast Magistrates court yesterday to decide whether to send the case to the Crown Court, but was adjourned.

If convicted, the company could face an unlimited fine.
