Flavours of Ulster served up at festival

Gardeners and gastronomes will gather for a green gala in Belfast's Botanic Gardens this weekend.

Mingling with thousands of prize blooms and the finest produce to come from Belfast's gardens and allotments will be tempting dishes of the finest local and international food and drinks, laid on as part of the sixth annual Garden Gourmet event.

There will also be a packed entertainment programme centred on the autumn flower show - the biggest such show in Northern Ireland's calendar.

The event, run by Belfast City Council, is now in its 26th year and will feature thousands of colourful prize blooms, exhibits of monster-size vegetables and other delights from local gardens, allotments, greenhouses, wine cellars and beehives.

Visitors coming for the Garden Gourmet event will be able to sample an extensive menu of local produce as well as food from around the world.

Meanwhile, the two-day event will feature a packed entertainment programme.

Part of the first Belfast food and drink festival, Garden Gourmet takes place at Botanic Gardens, Belfast, tomorrow and Sunday. Opening hours are 12.30pm to 6pm and admission costs £3 (£2 concession rate) with accompanied children free of charge.

Other events include a Jenny Bristow masterclass in W5, cookery demonstrations in St George's Market and the Chilli Fest in Custom House Square as well as food and wine tastings and gourmet theme nights.
