Girls Aloud split fears after Nadine revelation
Tuesday, 13 January 2009
Nadine Coyle has revealed that she sees herself as the talent behind Girls Aloud.
The Derry beauty risked upsetting bandmates Cheryl Cole, Sarah Harding, Nicola Roberts and Kimberly Walsh to claim that she was the main voice of the hugely successful girl group.
In a rare break from the band’s portrayal as a ‘confederacy of equals’, Nadine described herself as the “singer” and told the Guardian newspaper: “I do most of the vocals”.
The revelation comes amid fresh rumours that Nadine, who is based in Los Angeles and is dating American footballer Jason Bell, could leave the all-girl group to pursue a solo career in the States.
Indeed, the band’s former manager Louis Walsh has vowed to make Nadine a solo star if and when Girls Aloud go their separate ways.
Girls Aloud shot to fame after winning reality TV show Popstars the Rivals in 2002. Since then they have had a string of hits and made it into the Guinness Book of Records for the most consecutive top 10 singles. Nadine, who won an Irish talent contest but was too young to join the band, believes she would have been a successful singer even without winning the show.
“Oh, I'm sure we'd all just be the same, somewhere, singing,” she said.
Meanwhile Cheryl Cole has she has no intentions of going solo. The pint- sized pop star and X Factor judge said: “That's a horrible thing to think. I mean, I'm not comparing us to Destiny's Child, but they all went off and did their own things but then came back to the group.”
Last week Cheryl followed in the footsteps of the world's greatest beauties by gracing the front cover of Vogue magazine.
During that interview she hit out at fellow WAGs, branding them “like wooden blocks” and slammed Victoria Beckham for her lack of support during husband Ashley Cole’s affair. Speaking to Vogue' bout her disappointment, Cole said: “I mean, David's mum is friends with Ashley's mum, she (Victoria) was in my hotel room the whole time during the World Cup. And we've had barbecues together — so I was quite shocked by that.”

Naomi, Jade / Jayde, Cathy - There are so many other successful young women out there who would make such better role models, in my opinion.
Jade / Jayde - it says a lot when you can't decide how to spell your own name. There is a big wide world out there beyond Girls Aloud, why not have a look.

Im a sixteen year old girl so i obviously look up to and love Cheryl Cole so much... However i do agree she does need to keep quiet and only say the right things or people arent going to like her as much as they do now

Nadine is amazing. She will be the best singer on the planet if she goes solo.

Shut up "Sam"
What about the "Irish schtick"...
My guess is you are English-it??

This is celeb nonsense, not news. Be ashamed Belfast Telegraph.

I really don't think that Nadine will make it if they split, she can sing a bit, but she has zero personaility on screen, she will end up in a studio providing vocals for a model to mime to.
You can only get so far with the "Irish" schtick.

Nadine definitely has the best voice of the group, does nobody remember her singing fields of gold, it gives me goosebumps everytime, amazing! Though i do think she should stop praising herself, its taken the five of them to get where they are today and it will always take the five of them to make it work, it doesn't matter who leaves first, the band will still split up as soon as someone goes so she needs to lose the ego

Nicola is my favourite.

erm....sorry about this guys, but Nadine Coyle does, in fact, do most of the singing for the band. It may be a pop band, but what she said is true. She has an horrible accent, but a good singing voice. And didnt claim to write any of the lyrics.
This has reminded my why I dont have much faith in us stepping out of the intellectual cupboard anytime soon here guys.

Being the "talent behind Girls Aloud". Not really something to crow about, is it?
Keep talking Nadine. Someone in America might start to believe the hype soon.

good lord she's got to be taking the proverbial - when she opens her trap I pray to be struck deaf

If anybody's going to have a sucessful career it will be Cheryl. Nadine who?

too skinny, too whiney and they sing in a put on effected psuedo american drawl!! 10 year olds will be gutted for 5 minutes then they'll all be devoted to The Saturdays!

I think fame has definately went to her head, her singing voice is ok but when she speaks it makes you cringe, has she never listened to the other girls singing cause there all great, get over yorself Nadine youve been threatening to leave for a long time now so just do it and see how far you get (remember Robbie)

You may do most of the vocals Nadine but how many of the lyrics or how much of the music do you write? Girls Aloud as a glorified dance troop who are beginning to take themselves a little bit too seriously.
Posted by terry | 13.01.09, 10:00 GMT
This from the girl who almost never made it in to the band cos she can't dance! She should never have been put through!!
