IRA bomber Marian Price freed by police probing Massereene attack
Thursday, 19 November 2009
Former IRA bomber, Marian Price, who was being questioned in connection with the murder of two soldiers at Massereene Army Barracks has been released without charge.
Price, who was jailed for a bomb attack at the Old Bailey in the 1970s, was released from custody yesterday afternoon.
A PSNI spokesman said a report will now be prepared for the Public Prosecution Service. A 39-year-old man, who was detained 40 miles away in Coalisland, was released unconditionally.
Price (55) was arrested in a dawn raid by armed police officers at her west Belfast home on Tuesday morning.
She was questioned about the murders of Sappers Patrick Azimkar (21) from London and Mark Quinsey (23) from Birmingham.
Gunmen opened fire on the two soldiers as they collected food from pizza delivery men outside the Massereene base on March 7.
Twelve people have been arrested in connection with the shootings.
Two have been charged — prominent republican Colin Duffy (41) and Brian Shivers (44) from Magherafelt.
Price and her sister Dolours were among those convicted for the 1973 bombing outside the Old Bailey which killed one person and injured 200 others. She split with the mainstream republicans of Sinn Fein around the time of the Good Friday Agreement.
In 2001 she accused Sinn Fein of committing “treason and treachery”.
No-one from her family was willing to comment when contacted last night.
