Ireland’s 'coast-to-coast' motorway links Dublin and Galway
Wednesday, 18 November 2009
Ireland's first coast-to-coast motorway linking Dublin and Galway will open before Christmas — but motorists will pay almost €10 for a round-trip.
Tolls will cost car owners €4.80 each way when the 194km-long M6 motorway opens in the middle of December.
If someone living in Galway travels to Dublin Airport, they will have to pay three tolls amounting to almost €8 — the M6 Ballinasloe toll of €1.90, the M4/M6 Kilcock toll of €2.90 and the M50 toll of up to €3.
Contractors constructing the road are working against the clock to avail of the lucrative Christmas toll market.
Contractor ICON, which comprises Spanish companies FCC Construction SA and Itinere Infraestructuras SA, as well as PJ Hegarty & Sons from Ireland, can charge a toll from December 13 and is racing to have the final section of the motorway finished.
The National Roads Authority (NRA) said it hoped to have the motorway completed before Christmas.

Galway is a great city so much better than Dublin. Just wondering - when this opens would it be quicker to go from Belfast to Dublin then Dublin to Galway? Or Belfast to Galway?

Wow! Ireland's main roads are now amazing. It only takes an hour and a half to drive from Belfast to Dublin, thanks to Ireland's fantastic motorway investment.
