Irishwoman ,23, drowns in Vietnam
Saturday, 22 November 2008
The body of a young Irishwoman who drowned in Vietnam was recovered yesterday.
Tara Sheridan (23), from Maree, Oranmore, Co Galway -- who went missing on Wednesday -- had only arrived in Vietnam last week.
She had been travelling with two friends and was en route to Australia.
Her friends become concerned when she disappeared on Wednesday and alerted the local authorities. It is thought that she may have gone swimming or fallen into the sea.
Tara was popular in the Maree area and was well known to customers at the Thatch Bar in Oranmore where she worked.
She had a memorable 'bon voyage party' shortly before setting out on her travels.
She is survived by her parents Michael and Ann, and one brother.
The Republic's Department of Foreign Affairs has been providing consular assistance to the family.
Yesterday, local Senator Fidelma Healy Eames said that news of Tara's death had greatly shocked the entire parish.
"Tara was like so many young Irish people, just taking time out to travel. She was a lovely, happy-go-lucky girl who lived for the moment. She was very helpful and straightforward and this news is just shattering for her family and everyone who knew her.
"Right now the whole parish is wrapping its arms around her family. The shock and grief is immense", added Ms Healy Eames.
