Joe (80) in 16,000ft sky jump for charity

Eighty-year-old Joe McKeown will cast his eyes to the heavens tomorrow — praying for good weather so that he can make a 16,000 feet drop to earth.

The octogenarian, with his hallmark goatee beard, plans to make a sky-dive to raise vital funds for The Alzheimer’s Society in memory of his wife Ena who died two years ago as a result of the illness.

Originally, his target was £10,000, but Joe is so well-respected in his home area of Craigavon that he has easily passed that five-figure sum, so now he’s going for £1 per foot, and is sailing towards £16,000.

Said Joe: “The family thinks I’m mad, but they’re 100% behind me and, anyway, I’ve had my three score years and 10, and some more. I really enjoy life and this has given me something to reach for — reaching for the sky I suppose. ”

Anyone who wants to sponsor Joe can ring 028 3834 3373.
