John Hartson ‘ill but stable’
Saturday, 18 July 2009
Critically ill former Celtic and Wales football star John Hartson (pictured) has resumed radiotherapy treatment two days after undergoing emergency neurosurgery.
The 34-year-old was told last weekend he had testicular cancer that had spread to his brain.
News of the diagnosis was made public on Monday after Hartson was admitted to Singleton Hospital in his home city of Swansea, south Wales.
On Tuesday he underwent emergency neurosurgery to relieve pressure on his brain. Doctors then also discovered that the cancer had spread to his lungs.
Since then he has remained critically ill in intensive care at Morriston Hospital, which is also in Swansea.
It was disclosed yesterday that he was transferred briefly back to Singleton Hospital to enable radiotherapy treatment to resume.
“John Hartson remains critically ill, but stable, with his family and close friends continuing to support him,” a spokeswoman for ABM University NHS Trust said.
“He has resumed his radiotherapy treatment,” she added.
