Kayakers to paddle from Dublin to Belfast

A pair of Ulster kayakers will be taking to the waves this weekend in an epic charity paddle from Dublin to Belfast.
Friends Colin Graham and Robert Beck will push off from the River Liffey for the 145-mile voyage up Ireland’s east coast tomorrow morning to help raise funds for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution.
The route will include four open water crossings at Dundalk, Carlingford, Dundrum and Strangford.
The gruelling five-day voyage will see them paddling up to eight hours a day.
“We’re both kayaking coaches and I have done a few charity trips in recent years,” said Dromara man Colin.
“Robert said he would like to do a trip as well and he suggested raising money for the RNLI.”
The pair will have special equipment for their trip, including Global Positioning Satellite trackers. They are aiming to arrive at the Odyssey quay by Thursday evening.
