Linfield's ‘own goal’ over new kit pictures
Thursday, 31 July 2008
This is one of the sultry shots of former Miss Northern Ireland Lucy Evangelista which Linfield Football Club was forced to remove from its website after it was deemed to be too ‘provocative’.
The picture, which was being used to promote the club’s new home kit, was removed — along with six others —after the revealing pictures were highlighted to the club’s board members.
It is understood some of the pictures featured the stunning 22-year-old ‘modelling’ the jerseys which had been ripped to reveal more of her body.
The Belfast Telegraph contacted the club this morning about the pictures but a spokesman said they did not wish to make any comment.
It is understood that the provocative photos and the decision to use them to promote the league champions’s new home kit will be discussed at Linfield’s next board meeting on Monday.

I fervently trust that the same opposition will be forthcoming if Linfield is ever asked to play on a Sunday

How can anyone in today's world take exception to a beautiful young lady exposing "a little bit of flesh." One can see more flesh at the local beach on a daily basis.
From a commercial perspective it is a no brainer that these photos will certainly help to enhance Linfield's revenues.

Ridiculous and narrow-minded those who had the photos removed!! Glamour is a part of sport, and a "dash of spice" does no harm. These photos are nothing compared to what we see here in Brazil

The Linfield Board must have approved of these images before they were posted. They are inoffensive and do not warrant this puritanical censorship instigated by Linfield.

Prudery is alive and well in NIreland! Homosexuality upsets Iris Robinson and Women Linfield! What is next on the phobia list?

Provocative? Sometimes I despair of some people. I really think the cotton wool brigade (wrapped in) should move with the rest of us into the C21st. you really would be leading a sheltered life if the most provocative thing you ever saw was a pretty young womans tummy.

What troubles me is not what she is not wearing but what she is-it's disgraceful that such a beautiful girl should be forced to wear such a hideous football jersey.
Lucy Evangelista is one of Northern Ireland's best young talents.

lucy has disgraced us by wearing too many clothes. im disgusted at her. it would have been better with body paint as opposed to a real jersey.

Trust glens supporters to complain !!!!

I have never heard such nonsense, getting these pics removed. People have little to do to complain, there's nothing wrong with the pics. Linfield's board should have kept photos, instead of bowing down to the "do-good-er's" of our society. They're supposed to be the leading football club in N.I., show the lead and put these pics back on the website

Rotation does not make it any less provocative!!!

If the board menders found this offenceive, then it's time for a new board, Wise up to yourseleves

THESE PICTURES SHOULD BE REMOVED RIGHT AWAY AND REPLACED BY MORE REVEALING ONES. IS ANYONE REALLY UPSET ABOUT THE PICTURES?

Good picture and top class, well established Belfast model, Linfield were lucky to get her! Who's better to advertise the new kit

Come on, there is nothing wrong with this photo.
Put it back on, and those who don't want to look at it, DON'T. its as simply as that.

All I can say is, this is probably the most talent you will see in a lInfield shirt this season!

I'm going to entitle this comment "Attractive woman shows navel, Puritans panic".
In an age when we face a constant bombardment of glamour and pseudo-eroticism on television, the internet, newspapers and even radio commercials can anyone honestly say that they find these images shocking or offensive?
It is a flawed belief that there ever was a 'golden age of ideals and virtue' that humankind has strayed from. The very fact that our species still exists is a testament to our unchanged morality and yet we are taught from an early age to feel guilty about such base desires. There is something slightly hypocritical about that.

"we have disgraced ourselves again".....we are the laughing stock of Europe. A pretty girl wears a club strip and it brings out the Ulster ayatollahs; this is a none story and the Linfield board are so far out of touch...
this image for Linfield is much perferable to what went before and a welcome departure......
