Little uptake on Vatican offer to Church faithful
Monday, 26 October 2009
The Pope's invitation to Anglicans to join the Roman Catholic Church is likely to meet with little response in Northern Ireland.
Last week the Vatican took the Church of England by surprise in offering a legal structure to members of the Church of England who wish to transfer.
The offer was made to groups as well as individual clergy, but the uptake is uncertain. However, it may include 1,000 Anglican disaffected clergy who disagree with the Church of England on the ordination of women.

Its kind of like changing your bank. If your not going to give a good exchange rate with a better return, why bother.
Its all about getting a good return on what you put into it.
By the way, inhumanity and crime is rife across the world. It does not know what religion is except for those religions theat preach hate, intolerance, etc.

The first sentence should of course read REJOIN, and not join. As someone wrote lately "Anglicans etc left the club" and formed their own.Their (rather originally the tyrant Henry V111's ) choice.I have no problem with that, good luck to them all, and God speed.
However I DO have a problem when so many Protestants spend an inordinate amount of time, energy and print paper looking back over their shoulders with ongoing vitriolic hatred for Catholicism. If the Pope picks his nose or farts it's bad news to you people, and out comes the hatred.
You have your own set up now lads, so why not just get on with it and let us get on with our (original) one.

Some people are more interested, and protective towards their church, than towards children. The problem of child abuse is not being treated as openly as some would say, when the names of the perpetrators, in many cases, are not released. Who in their right mind would join a church where this has happened?

All the Protestant churches are man made. No ordinary mortal man ever had or ever will have the authority from God to start a church. The only true church is the one that was started with the Apostles by Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ which He said, "will remain until the end of time and that the gates of hell will never hold out against". The mere existence of Protestantism is a denial of His words. His church eventually overcame the Roman Empire and is, quite rightfully, based in Rome. I think all Protestants should do a bit of serious thinking and apply to join the 'Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church' where they will find true meaning to their lives and religious practice and devotion like they have never experienced before.

Response to ArthurS:
CofE's(Anglicans) politically correct agenda, mainly the attitude towards gays, women priests and sympathy for the inclusion of Sharia Law within the Queen's Writ.
Enough reasons for you?

Liam,
"Leave there (sic) Church" Like yourself I imagine. Now sitting on the sideline hurling abuse - easy.
So you have a chip against the Catholic Church. But tell me Liam, do you and others like you hurdle abuse at other clergy, schoolteachers, police officers, judges, firemen and other upright pillars of society which surely harbour pedophiles also, and "leave" ?
We Catholics are enraged by what has happened, and are addressing the problem constructively and openly. We will emerge stronger and wiser with or without blind hatred from people such as you.

I see little reason for Anglicans to take up the offer. They are already in a church that is broad, inclusive and flexible.
Why would any reasonably-minded Anglican want to subject himself or herself to the authority of a German pope stuck in the middle of Italy?
Also disturbing are the very costly court cases in the US against priests and bishops in the Roman Catholic Church. The track record of Catholicism in Ireland leaves much to be desired as we know.
Why grab a stick and start beating yourself with it? Leave self-flagellation to those already there!

I wonder if there are any Church of England churches in NI where the equivalent established organisation is the Church of Ireland? If not, then there would be little uptake.
The Pope's invite to any "separated brethren" that have become dissaffected by the CofE's politically correct agenda, mainly the attitude towards gays, women priests and sympathy for the inclusion of Sharia Law within the Queen's Writ, may be a reflection of a view that the Christian church needs to strengthen in order to face an ascendant Islam.
Is this the case, I wonder?

why join a church rife with sex abuse against children past and present some we know about others covered up, even now an archbishop in tippery is being investicated there is no end of cases, a church is supposed to be a safe haven for children ,a church which goes against the wishes of god and covers up sins is in my view an insult to god , rather than joining this abomination you should look for salvation elsewhere, in fact i invite decent catholics who agree with me not to put up with this and leave there church
