Love is ... just £2 with a dozen red roses at ASDA

The rush to buy red roses was on today as loved-up couples across the province celebrated St Valentine's Day.

Florists were on their feet late last night and again from early this morning arranging bouquets for all-day deliveries.

At Reids on the Lisburn Road, extra staff were drafted in to help out with what is expected to be the busiest day of the year.

A spokeswoman for Reids said: "We were working late to about 11pm yesterday and were back in at 7.30am today.

"Extra staff have come in to help out and we're expected to be rushed off our feet all day.

"Our bouquets of a dozen red roses with luxury stems come in a glass vase and are priced £60, which hasn't changed in the last three years. We've been inundated with requests, so it's fair to say that romance is very much alive in Belfast."

And for romeos on a budget, many of the supermarkets in Northern Ireland slashed their bouquet prices in time for Valentine's Day.

At Lidl, Grand Prix Rose luxury bouquets were on sale today for £24.99, while standard bouquets retailed at £3.49.

Asda and Tesco have also slashed prices, with Asda selling a dozen red roses at a mere £2, and Tesco's coming in at £4.75.

Gritty, moving and heroic...Billy plays captured life here

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times ... Sunday's 30th anniversary screening of the seminal Too Late to Talk to Billy was riveting viewing. But it wasn't nostalgic viewing.

Why trying to go on a diet is never really a piece of cake

Some people make New Year’s resolutions, I make lists. Every new year I determine to keep track of everything I spend and everything I eat and drink.

Scary movie? Their jaws were sore from laughing

Teenage boys love horror films and I have two who are in charge of the remote control in our house, so naturally there’s gore-a-plenty on the box most weekends. However, until recently one film was banned.
