Gerry Adams has received a death threat from loyalist paramilitary group the Orange Volunteers

Sinn Fein president Gerry Adams has received a death threat from loyalists.

Police told him of the danger posed by a splinter paramilitary group called the Orange Volunteers.

The same organisation made similar threats to Sinn Fein junior minister in the Office of the First Minister and Deputy First Minister (OFMDFM) Gerry Kelly and Education Minister Caitriona Ruane earlier this week.

A spokesman for Sinn Fein said: "This latest threat comes on the back of other threats against senior party figures...while Gerry Adams will take this threat seriously it won't deter him from carrying out his work as an elected representative."

The Orange Volunteers emerged following the signing of the Good Friday Agreement and vowed to target republican prisoners released early following the peace accord.

This Steve character shows up defending Loyalist terror but relentlessly criticizes the other side even when no-one mentioned them.... Paranoid?

Itss Ook dar steeve, de six cooonties ar as "brttish" as eever.

How's that for flawless Ulster (or should I say Bulldog British even though we're really Irish and can't bear to admit it) Scots?

To Patrick 2 , you really do not have a sense of humour or sarcasm ?
Ulster Fry , Orange state Fry , you don't get it , do you ?
What is totally screwball about the PLO training of Irish Republicans or arms shipments from Gadhaffi or intelligence sharing with FARC from Colombia ?
They happened , they have not been air brushed out of history ?
Just because you do not like the facts , does not make them untrue.

Call me a cynic, but the timing is beautiful to get a bit of sympathy towards our Gerry. Sorry, he'll be getting no sympathy in this household.

Dear billyboy,
You are so right, it is a distraction! Not for Gerry, but for good old Iris Robinson! By the way, it sounds like your "household" could use some sympathy, rather that handing it out?

They need to be Peelered and taken off the streets. Orange dissidents are like green dissidents - repulsive and outdated.

John .g, the former antagonists do indeed know who the dissident clowns are, as I am sure so do the police.
Unfortunately they need proof to jail these scumbags!!!

Is Steve trolling again? I can't wait to see how he justifies his defense of these dissidents.
I'll call them dissidents. I'm still waiting on someone giving them a name yet. Why doesn't BT set up a poll with a prize for the winner.
We can't have all pretentious terrorists, irrelevant of delusion, being called the same thing. Can we?

Very good Ted. That's the attitude. Loyalists=Clowns. Nationalists=? Murdering thugs? Terrorist scum?

Both sides have a minority that spoil life in what could be a great country. Idiots like you fuel their fire.

There really is still a bunch of people out there, that have never grown up.

Gerry Adams is a human like everyone, no matter if you agree with him or not.

Instead of threats on his life, they would be better to shoot themselves rather, than acting like children.

These people are no better than animals, that like to think they are educated adults.

Orange Volunteers, that stand for nothing. Go out and get a proper education and job.

The former antagonists , IRA, UDA etc., know who the disaffected people are on both sides......If they are serious in their intention of establishing a peaceful society, let both sides turn them in to the PSNI, this would undoubtedly appeal to the vast majority of NI folk.....Good luck!

I'd almost miss your totally screwball

Oh Gwrinkle you have angered the Dave! Thank you because I was thinking the same thing! I hate bad grammar and just wish more people knew the difference between there, their and they're! Still it does amuse me on my day off! And while we're here both sides are as bad as each other with their problems in politics! Boresville.

This is absolutely ridiculous!! Orange volunteers, my backside, Gerry Adams, is not my politician, nor representative of my views, but the people that he represents are happy with him and he seems to be doing the job for them. Let's just get back to the job in hand, local government, thank you!!!

It gets better everyday , first there was Gerry Adams alleged paedophile brother and did Gerry know or did he not.
Now he is supposedly threatened by a shadowy loyalist group .
What will it be next , a heart to heart with Oprah or Dr Phil.
This is a PR exercise for Gerry and next year he will be a guest on the Jamie Oliver cooking show , making an Irish Stew or an Ulster Fry.
Opps , the Ulster fry would have to include Donegal,Monaghan and Cavan and not the 'Orange statelet' as Sinn Feen/IRA like to call it.
