Lynda Bryans parts company with U105
Thursday, 9 October 2008
Television and radio presenter Lynda Bryans is leaving U105, it has emerged.
One of the best-known female presenters in Northern Ireland, Lynda was told her contract with the station was not being renewed.
She will be replaced by Carolyn Stewart, who currently fills the night-time slot on the station.
Carolyn also presents Saturday Night Fever from 6pm to 10pm.
Lynda joined the U105 line-up in November 2005 and hosted the 12 noon to 3pm slot, U105 Lunch.
A spokesman for Lynda’s company Take I Take II, which she set up with presenter husband Mike Nesbitt, said: “Lynda has been informed that her contract with U105 is not being renewed.
“There were no negotiations.”
The popular presenter began her broadcasting career at the BBC in Northern Ireland and worked on a number of shows including Inside Ulster, Here And Now, Animal Hospital and Holiday. As well as working with her husband on UTV Live, the couple also presented Sunday Morning for Anglia Television and UTV’s home and garden series Home Sweet Home.
It is understood Lynda will continue with her television career.
The spokesman for her company said: “Lynda is awaiting firm proposals for TV work next year.”
U105’s station manager Peter McVerry said Lynda’s departure was part of a review of programming and that the time was right to introduce a different style of lunchtime show to the schedule line-up.
“The new show will be more music focused so Lynda Bryans is handing over to Carolyn Stewart for U105 Lunch from October 27.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank Lynda for the key role she has played in contributing to U105’s success since its inception three years ago, and wish Caroyln the best of luck with the new show later this month.”

peter mccverry "lynda's ex boss" said that they were going to make the lunchtime show more music based and less talk. there has been no difference in the content of the show since carolyn has taken over. the show is rubbish now without lynda.

I agree that Carolyn is much better in the night-time slot. The combination of Frank Mitchell's show followed by Lynda's was very enjoyable.
I'm not too impressed by the current night show....Carolyn did it much better....but Lynda was well suited for the Lunchtime show.
Sad that we don't hear her cheerful voice anymore.
It wouldn't surprise me if U 105's ratings dropped.

I am very sorry to hear of Lynda's leaving. To me the lunch time slot will not be the same. Carolyn is more suited to her night time slots. It was nice to hear all the discussions going on and the laughter that came with it. Please pass on my regards to Lynda.
Thanking you.

i think that the decision to let lynda bryans go from U105 is a travisty. for over 2 years we've been tuning in to lynda and she has become a part of our day. she is the perfect presenter in all ways and to let her go is just wrong. u105 crow and boast about how big their ratings have become. breaking the 100,000 barrier. well who do you think did that for you U105? MAYBE IT WAS THE RADIO RATINGS FAIRYS??? no, lynda bryans had a big big hand in putting you on the map and now you think it's a good idea to get rid of her. yeah the mind is a strange thing when you work with a shirt and tie. KEEP SENDING IN YOUR COMMENTS PEOPLE AND LETS GET THE BACK BONE OF U105 BACK IN THE SEAT! that means lynda for those of you who don't understand. now back to lynda in the studio......OH THAT'S RIGHT SHE'S NOT THERE ANYMORE!!! get her back in where she belongs or you have just lost another listener.

Really must add my twopence worth too. My wife Gloria and i (im her husband) are most upset at the ludicrous decision of U105 to let Lynda go. Gloria was almost in tears the other night as we supped on her germoline and raspberry tea. We are both extremely fond of Lynda and her mix of music, chat and informative items. Friday will be a sad day for us all. I was going to say your loss U105, but its all of us who lose when Lynda goes

Estelle: Lynda doesn't make the playlists; they are all made by the Head of Music, Maurice Jay. The individual presenter has very limited choice in the music played.
The format is laid down by the Management.
Personally I enjoyed the Frank Mitchell Show and then Lynda's....two completely different shows.
I'm going to miss Lynda's show....especially as I listen from abroad through the Internet.....

What is going on at U105?Are the head honcho's wise enough?Asking Lynda to leave is like saying to George Best, you've no place in the team.I've only just heard about her contract not being renewed, and with the listening figures having just gone up by over 11,000,shouldn't the powers that be realise that maybe Lynda's show has something to do with that? But then again, if managers had talent they'd be presenters too.All I can say is that she'll be greatly missed by the Cheekyboys, but Im sure she'll go on to greater things being one of the most popular presenters we have.To U105,you've lost your centreforward.Other stations 1 U105 0.

I think its a very sad day to see Lynda go. As a working mother, (finishing at 1, and in my car until 3.30), i miss the morning talk shows..if i want music there is Citybeat, CoolFM ect...I want interesting magazine shows.............
This is a BIG MISTAKE< ratings will decrease

Sorry to har that Lynda is leaving. I like her warm and human touch. She is an extremely credible person. Carolyn is a completely different type.
Nevertheless I wish Carolyn all success.....and the same for Lynda in all future ventures.

Lynda's is the only show on U105 that i listen to. the station's tired retro music formula has run out of fizz. Lynda's was the only sparkle in the mix.

Me neither. Lynda is brilliant - that's a shocking decision.

She's too good looking for radio anyway - should be on tv more!

I stumbled upon her show by accident a few months back and have been a regular listener since. I won't tune in once she's gone. Good luck to her whatever she does!
