Man jailed for abusing girl (14)

Tuesday, 17 November 2009

A man who plied a 14-year-old girl with alcohol before he gave her a 'love bite' and indecently assaulted her was jailed for two years at the Crown Court in Derry yesterday.

Stephen Hutton (34) from Roe Mill Gardens in Limavady admitted committing two acts of indecent assaults on the girl on dates in May of last year.

Jailing Hutton for two years, after which he will be on probation for a further three years, Judge Piers Grant QC also placed him on the Sex Offenders Register for 10 years and imposed a Sexual Offences Prevention Order on Hutton banning him from unsupervised contact with children under the age of 18.

Judge Grant described Hutton's actions as “wholly inappropriate” and said the girl was finding the consequences of what had happened to her difficult to cope with.

“She appears to have acted in a consenting manner throughout but the law is there to protect not only the wise but also the unwise and naive”, he said.

Horse first, then cart ... it’s time nationalists got real about unity

No political regime likes uncertainty. Talk of unexpected elections makes politicians twitchy. Meal tickets can be put at risk.
