Man charged after stabbing

A 33-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder following a weekend stabbing in Newtownabbey.

He is due to appear at Belfast Magistrates Court this morning andthe case will be reviewed by the PPS.

The male victim (25) was taken to hospital after being stabbed at Dunloy Gardens around 5.30pm on Saturday evening. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

A 16-year-old youth was also arrested for disorderly behaviour and assault on police.

Meanwhile in a separate incident a man is recovering in hospital after being attacked with a hammer in North Belfast.

The victim (34) was attacked by three men at Alexandra Park around 3.30pm on Saturday.

A PSNI spokesperson said officers were investigating a motive for the attack and appealed for anyone with information to call 0845 600 8000.
